Troubleshooting Import Issues

If you tried to bulk import links or import from another plugin and it's not working, please try these steps

Written by Caitlin Ward

🚥 Note: This support doc is for the Lasso WordPress plugin.

Overview

Lasso has a bulk import feature that makes it easy to bring over your existing links, whether they're text links you've added yourself or displays from other plugins.

However, sometimes things can slow down or block the import process. If your links aren't importing into Lasso or your old displays are still showing, follow the steps below to get things running smoothly.

1. Has it been 24 hours?

For most sites, the import process will complete within the first hour or so of installing the plugin. For larger sites or sites with lots of links and posts, the import process can take longer.

Please allow up to 24 hours for the import process to finish.

Then, click the Automations Spinner in the Lasso WordPress menu bar.

  • If it shows tasks, like in the screenshot below, Lasso is still working. You should see progress, though. Ex: If it shows (19/214), it should show as something like 40/214 when you check it later.

  • If it shows a quote, like "Silence is a source of great strength," Lasso is no longer importing links.

If the Automations Spinner doesn't show any tasks, or if hasn't made progress in a few hours, proceed to the next step.

2. Check the Imports Tab

When you no longer see tasks under the Automations Spinner, or if it's stuck, check Lasso > Import.

Then, look at the button for the first product in the list.

What do you see?

If it says "Import":

The import didn't finish. It might’ve been skipped or timed out.

In this case, click the individual Import button or the Bulk Import button and repeat the troubleshooting steps in this doc.

If they still don't import, skip to step 6. Switch to Power Mode.

If it says "Revert":

All links have been imported to Lasso. (Lasso will show any available imports first, so if the first one has already imported, so have all the others.)

If you're still seeing old links or displays in your posts, though, continue to the next step. 👇

3. Check Your Lasso Dashboard

Next, we'll see if the link is in Lasso.

1. Go to Lasso > Dashboard.

2. Search for the product that's still showing as an old display in your post.

If you don't see the link, please contact Lasso support ([email protected]).

✅ If the product is there, the link itself imported to Lasso. Now, we just need to see why it hasn't changed in your post.

4. Check Your Locations

1. Click into the product you searched for in the previous step.

2. Click the Locations tab.

3. Search for the post where you're seeing the old display or link.

✅ If the post is listed: Lasso has replaced the link in the post.

  • Clear the cache for the post, and you should see the new Lasso display or link.

❌ If not: Lasso may not have detected the exact instance of that old display or link.

  • Proceed to the next steps.

5. Enable Custom Post Types

Lasso needs to "see" the post content in order to change out old displays and links. If you're using custom post types, Lasso may have been blocked from seeing it.

To enable custom post scanning:

  1. Go to Lasso > Settings.

  2. Find the Custom Link Detection section.

  3. Click in the text boxes, and Lasso will show you any results that are used in your WordPress site.

  4. Select any Custom Post Types or Custom Fields you use. (For troubleshooting purposes, it may be easier to select all of them to start. Then, if this fixes the issue, you can refine the list later.)

  5. Hit Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Then, either:

  • Wait 24 hours for Lasso to re-scan automatically.
    OR

  • Open the post in the editor, click Update, and wait ~30 mins for a manual scan.

If that was the issue, your display or link should now be replaced by Lasso automatically.

If that didn't fix it, there may be something blocking Lasso from running its automations.

6. Switch to Power Mode

Lasso runs background tasks on a “Balanced” performance setting by default. This keeps your site speedy, but it can slow down heavier processes like bulk imports.

Here’s how to give your site the boost it needs:

1. Go to Lasso > Settings.

2. Under Performance Settings, switch to Power.

3. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

If your Lasso > Import tab still has links to import:

Go back to Lasso > Import and run the Bulk Import again.

If your import doesn’t finish right away, give it up to 24 hours, then check again.

If links have imported but haven't updated in your posts:

Either:

  • Wait 24 hours for Lasso to re-scan automatically.
    OR

  • Open the post in the editor, click Update, and wait ~30 mins for a manual

If those options still aren't working, proceed to the next step.

7. Check Site Health + Cron Jobs

If the bulk import continues to stall, or your posts aren't updating, the cronjobs responsible for running it may be blocked or delayed.

Step 1: Review Site Health

  1. Go to Tools > Site Health

  2. Look for any scheduled event warnings, like:
    “A scheduled event is late”lasso_cron_import_all

📸 Take a screenshot and note the event name in case we need it later!

Step 2: Install WP Crontrol (If Not Already Installed)

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New

  2. Search for and install WP Crontrol

  3. Activate the plugin

Step 3: Inspect and Run the Cron Job

  1. Go to Tools > Cron Events

  2. Search for the event name you saw in Site Health (e.g., lasso_cron_import_all)

  3. Take a screenshot of the job

  4. Click “Run now”

Step 4: Check Results

Wait 24 hours and check if the import worked.

✅ If you see more links or updated displays in your posts:

  • The job is working, but may be getting cut off. Try repeating the steps again or re-running the cronjob manually until it finishes. It may just take a few tries.

❌ If you don’t see any changes:
