Using Lasso with Text-Based Links

A quick guide for getting the most out of Lasso with your text affiliate links, using the WordPress plugin

Overview

This guide focuses on how to maximize your earnings and simplify link management for your text links with the Lasso WordPress plugin.

You don’t need to overhaul your design or add visuals to get value from Lasso. Here’s how to make your links smarter, more reliable, and more profitable.

1. Add Lasso Links Without Changing Your Layout

You can insert any Lasso-managed link right into your post editor (Classic, Gutenberg, block editors, etc.) without using a display box. This keeps your content looking exactly how you want it.

Some helpful resources for adding links:

2. Use Link Alerts to Stop Losing Money from Dead Ends

Once you add a link to Lasso, it will help keep every link monetized and functional behind the scenes:

  • Out-of-stock alerts: Lasso lets you know when a product is no longer available on Amazon.

  • Broken link detection: Get notified if a link goes to a 404 or error page.

Need to fix a link because it's broken or out-of-stock? Or need to change it because the program stopped or you prefer something else?

Update the link once in Lasso, and it changes sitewide. No need to hunt through old posts.

🛠️ These tools save hours of manual work and protect your income. No need to hope links are working or keep a spreadsheet of where they are.

3. Earn More from Your Links with Smart Redirects

If you're on the Pro or Studio plan, Lasso adds behind-the-scenes upgrades to help you get more out of every click:

  • International redirects: Amazon links are automatically localized, sending international readers to their local storefronts. Configure your international Amazon tracking IDs here.

  • Mobile deep linking: On mobile, Lasso routes Amazon clicks to the app instead of the browser for a better conversion rate. This happens automatically, but you can turn it off here.

💸 These are the fastest ways to earn more money. Shoppers are more likely to buy from the Amazon app and from their local Amazon stores. Both of these automations boost your earning potential without changing your content at all.

4. Use Click Tracking to Optimize What’s Working

Lasso automatically tracks clicks on every affiliate link you create. This gives you valuable insight into how your content is performing without having to fight with Google Analytics 4 or complicated integrations.

How to use it:

Why it matters:

  • See what your readers are actually interested in.

  • Spot underperforming links and swap them out with better options.

  • Focus on high-value content that's driving the most clicks.

🤓 Once you've Lasso for about a week or so, consider checking your analytics at least once a week. This can improve your strategy and guide decisions without having to guess or set up custom reports in third-party tools.

5. Best Practices for Text-Based Affiliate Links

You don’t need to overwhelm your readers with links. Here's what we've found to convert the best:

Include 3–5 Affiliate Links Per Post

  • Focus on the most helpful and relevant products to the article.

  • It's not an exact science. When in doubt, think about what you'd want to see in a post.

  • In list posts (like "Top 15 Minimalist Bookshelves"), add at least one link for each of your options.

Placement Matters

  • The earlier the link appears (without being spammy), the more likely it is to be seen and clicked.

  • Use natural anchor text that blends into your content.

  • If you also use images or displays, add a text link in the paragraph right before it, especially if it's an image of that product.

Reuse Top-Performing Links

  • Use Lasso’s click tracking to identify what’s getting traction.

  • Repurpose those winners in related posts to maximize earnings.

Create Internal Linking Opportunities

  • When in doubt, link to gear guides, resources pages, or roundups where readers can explore more.

  • These internal hubs can drive more clicks and increase time on site.

6. Considering Displays?

If you don't yet use product displays but want a place to start, a curated Resources page is a great place to start. (This Toolbox page earns 10% of that site's income and is built entirely with Lasso displays!)
