How to Automatically Fix Broken and Out-of-Stock Amazon Links

When automatic close-match redirects are enabled, Lasso can help send your visitors to available Amazon products.

Written by Caitlin Ward

Overview

Amazon products can go out of stock, listings can change, and links that worked yesterday can stop working today. Replacing those links manually takes time, and sometimes the original product is back shortly after you replace it.

Lasso helps fix this for you automatically, helping you maximize your earnings and keep your audience happy.

This is controlled by these two settings in your Lasso Preferences:

  • Close-match redirects for broken / out-of-stock products

  • Show interstitial for broken / out-of-stock redirects

What close-match redirects do

If a Lasso-managed Amazon link is broken or the original product is unavailable, Lasso can automatically send the visitor to a relevant Amazon product instead.

If Lasso can't find a very similar product, it will send your audience to an Amazon search page instead, based on the title of the Amazon product.

Lasso will also make sure the link is monetized properly for you, so you're earning as much as possible from the new product:

  • If the original link has a tracking ID attached, that same ID will be attached to the new product.

  • If the original link did not have a tracking ID attached, Lasso will attach the default from your Amazon Settings.

  • And if the new product has a high commission rate in Lasso's Marketplace, Lasso will ensure the necessary maas campaign tracking is attached, so you get that higher rate.

When the original product becomes available again or its link starts working normally, Lasso sends visitors to the original product as usual. You do not need to replace the link just because the product was temporarily unavailable.

What does the interstitial do?

The interstitial gives your audience a clear explanation when Lasso is about to send them to a close-match product instead of the original Amazon product they selected.

An example is shown below.

It helps visitors understand where they are going while still giving them the option to continue to the original product instead. This keeps the experience transparent and useful.

Lasso turns the interstitial on by default as an abundance-of-caution measure. It supports a clear experience and helps your audience know exactly what product they're going to see on Amazon.

Why use the automatic redirects?

Automatic product matching can help you:

  • Avoid sending visitors to dead ends.

  • Recover clicks that could otherwise be lost.

  • Spend less time finding and replacing temporarily unavailable Amazon products.

  • Keep your original links in place while Lasso handles temporary availability problems.

What is enabled by default?

Automatic close-match redirects and the close-match redirect interstitial are both turned on by default in your Lasso Preferences.

This default is designed to help maximize the clicks and earnings you can recover while keeping the redirect experience clear to your audience. You can change either setting at any time based on your preferences.

How to control automatic matching

Automatic matching and its interstitial are controlled separately in your Lasso Preferences.

Close-match redirects

To stop Lasso from sending visitors to a close-match product when the original Amazon link is broken or out of stock, turn off the setting for Close-match redirects for broken / out-of-stock products.

With this setting off, Lasso will no longer automatically send visitors to a similar product when the original link cannot be used.

They will go to the out-of-stock product or broken link instead.

Turn off only the interstitial

To keep automatic matching enabled but remove the transition screen, turn off the setting for the Show interstitial for broken / out-of-stock redirects.

With the interstitial off, visitors can still be sent to a close-match product when needed, but they will not see the transition screen first.

Turning off the interstitial does not turn off automatic matching.

Important things to know

  • Close matches are intended to be very similar to the original product, but it may not be identical.

  • If Lasso isn't confident that the product is similar enough, it will redirect people to an Amazon search page instead, using the Amazon product title as the search time.

  • Automatic matching is intended to help with broken or unavailable Amazon products; it does not replace manually updating a link when you want to feature a specific product.

  • When the original product and link work normally again, Lasso returns to the original link.
