Lasso API vs. Amazon API

What's the difference between the two APIs? Which plans have access to which APIs?

Written by Caitlin Ward

Overview

If you're on Lasso's Studio plan (or considering it), you might have seen "API Access" listed as a feature and wondered what that means. Here's a breakdown of the two different types of API access available with Lasso, and what each one does.

1. Amazon API (Included in All Paid Plans)

What it is:

Amazon's Product Advertising API lets you pull in up-to-date product info like images, titles, prices, and ratings directly from Amazon.

How it works with Lasso:

  • All paid Lasso plans (Creator, Pro, Studio) include automatic access to the Amazon API.

  • Lasso uses its own API credentials, so you don’t need to set up your own Amazon API keys.

  • Amazon product data is pulled and updated every 24 hours, ensuring compliance and up-to-date info.

  • Your Amazon Tracking ID is still always used, so you earn commissions like normal.

2. Lasso API (Studio Plan Only)

Tip: If you're not doing custom development, you likely won’t need this feature.

What it is:

Lasso’s own internal API gives Studio users advanced access to their affiliate link data. It lets you reference Lasso content outside of default Lasso display areas.

What you can do with it:

  • Use Lasso data (titles, prices, images, etc.) in custom layouts.

  • Display Lasso info in areas of your site not managed by Lasso blocks or shortcodes.

  • Power more advanced workflows by pulling data into your own templates or plugins.

Who it's for:

  • Developers or advanced users who want more control over how Lasso data appears on their site.

  • Users with custom themes or plugin setups who need more flexibility.

Summary

  • Amazon API: Built-in for all paid plans. No setup needed. Keeps your Amazon links updated and compliant.

  • Lasso API: Available on Studio plan only. Lets you pull Lasso data into custom areas of your site.
