Overview
If you upgraded from a free Lasso account to any paid account, you'll need to change a few things to make sure you unlock all of your new features.
This article will explain how to migrate from Lasso Lite to the premium Lasso plugin and bring over all your product links/displays.
Before Getting Started
A different plugin is used for free and paid Lasso accounts.
Lasso Lite = Free version of Lasso.
Lasso = Paid version of Lasso. You may also hear this referred to as "Lasso Pro", though it'll show as "Lasso" in WordPress.
If you've installed both Lasso Lite and Lasso, you'll see both plugins in your WordPress dashboard:
Once you have a paid subscription, you won't need Lasso Lite anymore. The steps below will walk you through the process of switching the plugins.
1. Download the Premium Plugin
First, go to the Websites page in your Lasso account. There, you will:
Download the new plugin
Copy your license key
If you just upgraded, you'll can find those in the Finish migrating to Lasso Pro section at the top of the page:
If you don't see that section, you can download the plugin and copy the license key via the buttons right at the top of the page:
2. Activate the New Plugin
You'll need to upload the new Lasso plugin to WordPress and add your copied license key.
If you haven't uploaded a plugin's zip file before, the steps in this doc go into that process in more detail.
If you add the license key to Lasso (not Lasso Lite) and it asks you to activate it in your account, all you need to do is flip the Status toggle to Paid.
3. Move Your Links from Lasso Lite to Lasso
To import all your Lasso Lite product links over to Lasso, navigate to the submenu WordPress > Lasso > Import:
💡 NOTE: This happens in the Lasso plugin, not Lasso Lite.
Once you're on the Import screen, click on the dropdown that shows All Plugins and select Lasso Lite / Simple URLs:
Then, hit the Bulk Import button:
Confirm you want to take the action in the modal and click Import All:
Lasso will confirm that each product link has been imported by showing the green checkmark:
You will now find your Lasso Lite product links and displays imported into the Lasso Dashboard.
Anywhere those displays or links existed will now have been replaced and connected inside Lasso Pro instead!
4. Delete the Lasso Lite Plugin
Check the Lasso Lite dashboard to confirm it no longer shows any products or links. If so, you can safely deactivate and delete Lasso Lite. ✅
If it still shows links, please give it 24 hours and try the same import process from step 3. While rare, it's possible your site ran out of resources and needed to pause the import.
If it's still not working, please contact support.
Common Questions
Will I lose my data when switching plugins?
No, following the outlined steps ensures your links and displays are transferred successfully. Deleting Lasso Lite will not remove any imported data. At worst, it will stop displays from showing while it is deleted. But they will show immediately if the plugin is activated again.
Can I upgrade on a staging site?
Yes, you can activate Lasso Pro on a staging site and follow the import steps to ensure all data moves correctly.
